Anjana & Balaji
Magic Elephants was founded in 2014 by documentary photographer and independent filmmaker Balaji Maheshwar. In 2023, his partner Anjana Shekar, who is an independent writer and translator, joined the company.
They live in Chennai and also run a small photobook library called Bookroom where they host workshops and film viewing sessions.

Every package is custom made to suit your needs. We do not offer one-size-fits-all solutions. We take time to understand your requirements and work on a package that will best fit within your budget.

Our services fall broadly under photography and cinematography. Based on styles, it is further categorised into candid photography, wedding film, traditional photo and video. In addition to these, we offer live streaming, custom-made photo albums and pre/post wedding photo and video shoots.
Candid photography in weddings is a style that was popularised recently, over the past couple of decades. It is non-intrusive, blend-into-the-background sort of a style that avoids orchestration or staging of photos. This style is also couple-centric. The photographer may suggest some poses, especially during couple portrait sessions, but mostly the documentation of your event is done freely, as it unfolds.
Traditional photography is everything that the candid form is not. All of your group photos, photos taken on the stage, family portraits, etc., fall under traditional style.
Our intent is to make a film that’s timeless and one that is uniquely you. Our approach is simple, honest and very you!
At present, most of our team members reside in Chennai, India. But as image makers, we are wanderers, always on the move. If your wedding is happening outside Chennai, we request you to provide the cost of our travel and accommodation during the number of days we are involved.
You confirm your dates with us by paying the booking advance. This confirmation helps us plan our calendars and our future bookings accordingly. We do not crowd our dates with multiple bookings. You can be sure that we’ve got you on our priority list.
We sign the agreement contract and the consent form. This is mainly to help you understand our process better.
We meet or schedule calls to plan for the big day. We love people who show attention to detail. Tell us everything you’ve got in store for your big day and we’ll make sure you’ve got those memories documented for posterity!

We present your story in photos and videos! The timeline of deliveries will be given to you well in advance.
